About the "Inmates"

"Doctor" Jay Mullenax - Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals. From Franklin, WV, Jay Mullenax is the founder of County Farm. Jay has a remarkable ability to remember more tunes than you or I have ever heard. He sings many of the leads for County Farm, and is a formidable picker on mandolin and tenor banjo, among other things. Pickin’ an’ hollerin’ on the Asheville jam scene, Jay brought the “Inmates” together through his musical talent and old-fashioned hard work.
Jay does not like work.

"Officer" Paul Leech - Bass, Vocals. From Pittsburgh, PA, Paul Leech picked with Jay in Grass Combustion, a hard working West Virginia band formed on the porch of Terrapin Station. When Jay moved to Asheville, he encouraged Paul to move to Asheville too. Jay told the local musicians about Paulie's golden ear and monstrous bass chops. When Paulie arrived, we were not disappointed. A “bass player’s bass player”, Paulie can play anything.
Unfortunately, Paul has no sense of humor when it comes to legal matters.

Tommy "The Gun" Dudley - Guitar, Vocals. From North Haven CT, Tom Dudley first got into bluegrass as a teenager, frequenting "the Enormous Room" in New Haven, a venue that played host to Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and others. Tom gravitated toward jazz, and went on to study music at Berklee College in Boston. Tom moved to Asheville in 1995, joined the Asheville bluegrass jam scene, and found a supportive community of musicians. Tom opened Hoot Holler Music in 2007 to promote his CD, "Walkin' to the Bridge", which features Jay Mullenax and Paul Leech, along with a host of WNC pickers and singers. You can email Tom directly at: tdudley@weaversites.com

Neal "Igneous" Crowley - Fiddle, Banjo, Vocals. From Lexington, KY, Neal Crowley has played with The New Kentucky String Ticklers, and Kentucky Wild Horse, among many others. After moving to Asheville, Neal joined County Farm in September, 2001. Neal teaches banjo and fiddle in Asheville.
There is no truth to the rumor that Neal's vision is deteriorating.
